"Clash of the Rivals” is a once a year Alumni grudge match, between four local schools. But, there’s a bit of a twist. The schools are split up into two teams, South Side vs. North Side. Each School is represented by their top ten Alumni players. South Side consists of Holland High and Holland Christian. North Side, West Ottawa and Zeeland.
The first annual ” Clash of the Rivals ” game took place this last summer on July 18th, 2009. Zeeland Stadium was the venue for this event. The first game was played at 2 p.m. involving the high school All Star players using the same format. With the South Side claiming victory over the North Side. The Alumni had their starting Face Off at 4 p.m. and after a competitive and very exciting game the North Side defeated the South Side 11 - 7.

” I came up with the idea of the game because I wanted to keep lacrosse in my life and I wanted a way to play with my old teammates a few more times. So instead of starting up a normal boring Alumni game, I added a little creativity to it. Before I knew it I started a game that a lot of people wanted to take part in, and ” Clash Of The Rivals ” was born. The game really brought out the competitive personality of each athlete that took part in it. But we all still had a really good time out on the field and made sure it was fun, and that’s what its all about.”
